Summer in Saint-Tropez

Summer in Saint-Tropez

Imagine….crystal blue sea, yachts, a long boulevard with many cafe’s, “see and be seen”… Summer in Saint-Tropez. This is the first impression of Saint Tropez (which is  discovered by Brigitte Bardot.)  for a lot of people. I’ve been in Saint-Tropez two times during Summer and I discovered more about this village then only the yachts…

It is a fact that you see a lot of famous people in Saint-Tropez. The yachts are enormously, the prices are high. But Saint Tropez is also a charming villag and it was a pleasure to discover another side of it.
The last time, I travelled to Saint-Tropez by boat from Saint-Maxime to avoid the traffic jams, which are awful during the Summer months. It was lovely to admire this village from the water. The colorful houses, the tower of the church, it all was glistering in the sun. A wonderful view on the houses, the hilltop villages and wine domains.

Saint-Tropez behind the scenes

This time we had more time to explore Saint-Tropez so we avoid the boulevard and strolled through the back streets. I fell in love with the colourful houses and the silence. It was surprising to me! The other side of Saint-Tropez…. A place which I adored from another holiday in my teenage years. The glitter & glamour and the beauty was something new to me. So that’s why I was happy to be back, to discover an other side of this charming village.

Like I said, Saint-Tropez surprised me and inspired me.  I fell in love with the bright colors and a buzzing atmosphere and the narrow quiet streets. It was lovely to wander around, without a plan, and be surprised by every corner of the street.

What to see & to do

The House of Butterflies: a small museum with over 20,000 species of butterflies from all over the world
Annonciade Museum: this museum hosts a stunning collection of Signac, Matisse, Picabia, Braque, and Dufy, amongst others.
Market: On Saturday and Tuesday there is a market in Saint-Tropez under the trees of the Place des Lices. In addition to fruit and vegetables, you can buy leather sandals, antiques and curiosities, clothes and French pottery in this colorful market.
The most beautiful market is the vegetable market at the port of Saint Tropez at Place Aux Herbes. On the market you buy fruit, vegetables and flowers. The market is held in a picturesque square. Many Frances can not look like a square.
Shopping: Rue Gambetta is a long shopping street of Saint Tropez where you can find little boutiques of fashion and antiques.  In Rue Francois Sibilli, you’ll find the designer shops of Louis Vuitton, Versace etc.

Have you ever been in Saint-Tropez?
