How to Wear a Beret?
For years, I didn”t like to wear something on my head. Even when it was freezing outside, I wore no hat! But something changed…what you also see in the streets nowadays. The beret has made a comeback!
I have two hats in my wardrobe at the moment. A classic dark blue beret and a black velvet hat which is more casual.
In many fashion magazines I admired the outfits with an hat or beret. It gives something more to the outfit and I was ready for something else. It was time to update my wardrobe, to step out of my comfort zone and to create a new fashion style. Personally, I don’t wear many accessories. The most important accessory is my watch and a bag. Now I added the hat to my wardrobe. Reading tip: A very inspiring article to read is about stepping out of a wardrobe comfort zone.
I’d love to combine it with a turtleneck sweater or blouse, jeans and booties. There are so many ways to style the beret. I love the French touch what the beret gives to your outfit.
The beret is named after the farmers from the Basque country. They wore it to their work. Later, the beret became an accessory of the military uniform. The beret was worn as sportswear since the 1920s and later it became a real fashion statement.
How to wear?
The beret is an accessory which can be “shaped” in a variety of ways. On the site of “Retrochick” I get inspired by these four ways to style the beret:
- Towards the back of your head. This style was very popular in the 40s.
- Slightly back on your head. This is the most popular way to wear a beret nowadays.
- Tuck the brim under and wear it tilted to one side and pulled right over your forehead. For a 30s look!
- Untuck the brim and wear it mushroom style! For a 50s look!
How to style?
Use the color of the beret subtle in your outfit and keep the rest of your outfit classic and simple!
