Great Gatsby’s Christmas
When I think of Christmas, I think of glitter, midnight in Paris, delicious food and music. I am great fan of the Roaring Twenties so why not get some inspiration for Great Gatsby’s Christmas?
In this post, we’ll imagine that we have get an invitation for a Great Gatsby’s Christmas in a Parisian apartment. It’s cold outside, the radio has predicted snow. It’s 1927, the city is under the spell of the Roaring Twenties. Writers, actresses, painters, singers…everyone has come to Paris, to go after their dreams. Paris has it all.
I bought a new dress. A black one with sequins. I wear a stola and a new little bag. My husband wears his smoking. Because we live in another arrondissement, we take the taxi to the Christmas party. I love to stare out of the window and admiring the lights of Paris.
When we enter the apartment, we see the lovely red decorations and the huge Christmas tree. The candles give a warm glow. People are dancing the Charleston and drinking wine or gin tonic. The jewelry of the ladies are sparkling in the lights of the Christmas tree.
After the dances, we listened to the Christmas songs from the 1920s. We smelled a wonderful scent from the kitchen. The table was beautifully covered. And then I looked from the window and I saw that is started snowing. Paris in the snow. Could it be better?
We enjoyed champagne or gin rickeys (combo of gin, lime and mineral water), (even when it was prohibited to drink alcohol but it was still around :)), the talks and enjoyed the music. Such a great Christmas party!
Dinner 1920s style
Before we had dinner, we enjoyed the hors d’oeuvres: deviled eggs, stuffed mushrooms, crudités with dips, salmon mousse on sliced bread, olives and roasted nuts.
We really appreciated the cooking of the hostess. The menu a variety of cold fried chicken, turkey, baked ham, pork sausages, mashed potatoes, Waldorf and Caesar salads.
The dessert was a delicious lemon cake with brandy and fresh grated lemon rind and lemon juice. This was the most delicious cake I ever tasted in my life!
