My Blog and Writing Goals for 2016: how are things now?

In the beginning of this year, I published my blog and writing goals for 2016. We are now five months later and it’s time to give you an update.

My blog and Writing Goals for 2016: how are things now?

Generate more visitors on my blog

I will be honest. No, I didn’t achieved this in the first six months of this year. But I am glad with every visitor and comment I get! I really appreciate it because I hope to enjoy my readers with my articles! That’s the most important thing!

In March, I started my blog with WordPress, because I wanted learn more about that and WordPress has more opportunities then Blogger. The time between this move, I planned a blog break and I can highly recommend this to everyone who are struggling with their blog or other writings. I get more inspired, I thought about a change in my blog and implemented a new section: the Diary of a Parisienne. I decided to not plan every post on a same day, except of the Weekend Notes and the Diary of a Parisienne. This feels really better!

Book: Een dame in Parijs (The Velvet Hours) – Alyson Richman

This time I will write about a book which will be published tomorrow in the Netherlands “Een dame in Parijs (The Velvet Hours) – Alyson Richman.

The English version,”The Velvet Hours”, will be published September 2016.

I couldn’t wait for this book, because of the subject. Earlier, I wrote about the apartment which was discovered after 70 years. This books is based on the owner of this apartment, Marthe de Florian and her granddaughter Solange Beaugiron (who is the writer of Gloria 1971). There is no more information available about her, a little mysterie.

The history of a Fashionable Family in Amsterdam

The history of a Fashionable Family in Amsterdam

The history of a fashionable family in Amsterdam

I love houses full of history and especially the canal houses in Amsterdam. It’s one of the things which attracts me to travel to Amsterdam and just stroll along these houses and hoping that I could enter one of them and photograph the details….but I am a little impatient to wait when I will get this chance, so a couple of weeks ago I read about a exhibition at Museum Van Loon in Amsterdam: “Fashion at Van Loon”.  This canal house was designed in 1672 and his first owner was painter Ferdinand Bol. This house stills exudes the wealth of that time. The family van Loon was a very rich family and the last owners which had also founded this museum. Hendrik van Loon and Louise van Loon-Borski, married in 1854, lived a very wealthy life in Amsterdam and where members of the socialty life of that time. Therefore fashion played a important role in this family life and they were very internationally oriented. In the documents you learn that this family often visit the fashion houses in Paris and Amsterdam, such as Maison Paquin, Redfern, Maison Rouff and Maison Hirsch & Cie. See and to be seen was very important, to express yourself by means of the clothes. The ladies of the high society selected their outfit for each occasion carefully.
